Buzz heats up the Mexican Desert for Chevrolet

Buzz' first collaboration with McCann Erickson results in an exciting new commercial for Chevrolet’s Mexican market.

Sometimes the process of making a commercial is as impressive as the final result. In creating a new spot for Chevrolet’s Astra and Vectra, the team at Buzz was up against an incredibly tight timeline. According to the in-house VFX supervisor, the final product, a slick high-energy ad shot in the breath-taking desert and mountains of Mexicali, was delivered in record time.

In order to get this monumental task done, the team at GTN in Detroit digitally scanned the cars so Buzz could start the texturing, shading, and lighting work. Down in the Mexicali desert, the production team captured footage of the Chevrolets racing through picturesque scenery. Tracking points were put on the cars so that the Buzz team would be able to match the motion and perspective of the real cars with the completed digital models. Especially impressive is a “flying tiles” effect that gives the impression of power and speed while showcasing the color options available for the cars. This was Buzz' first collaboration with McCann Erickson’s Mexican branch and production house Metro Producciones, and given the quickly-delivered and expertly-produced commercial, no doubt there will be more great collaborations in the future.
